Dear Jason
While I met your mom only a couple of times, I had tremendous respect for all her community efforts. We did, however, share a good laugh about an English class I taught as a brand new teacher. My name was Miss Hayes and I had a lovely grade nine class although some could be a little too “social” at times. One particular young gentleman, who sat at the back of the classroom, had been reprimanded several times before I started my lesson on Fate, Freewill, and Coincidence as part of our study of Greek Mythology. I gave some examples of each and then asked, “OK, so is it Fate, Freewill, or Coincidence that you are sitting in this class with me right now?” From the back of the room, Jason’s dejected voice could be heard saying mournfully, “I’d say it’s just plain BAD LUCK!”
Jason, thank you for that wonderful quip that made me laugh then and all through the years. I am so sorry that you are now knowing the pain of losing a person’s greatest cheerleader, his mother. I pray that life is treating you gently and that happy memories help you and your entire family navigate through this terrible sadness of loss.

Joan and I first met the morning that we moved into our new home. When I answered the door, I was greeted with a big smile, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and a basket of homemade bran muffins.
Over the years, our friendship grew and included our spouses and neighbours. We enjoyed many delicious BBQ’s, boisterous Bocce ball games and visits to the county wineries.
As time passed it became tradition for Joan and I to preserve crab apple jelly and bake batches of Christmas cookies. John would slip into the kitchen and help himself to a handful of Joan’s irresistible baking.
Joan would often include me when her grandchildren came for a visit. Fun times included arts and crafts, quirky dress up days and a trip to the beach with the added excitement of meeting the park ranger.
Some of my fondest memories of Joan are our early morning walks on the Bayshore trail. Winter walks took us to the Bay of Quinte to watch the sunrise tinting the frozen bay a coral pink. Spring, summer, fall and winter for over thirty years, we walked together admiring a variety of neighbourhood gardens and the beauty of the bay.
So many meaningful moments and memories.
I am forever grateful for her friendship, Joan was a one-of-a-kind woman,, a devoted spouse, loving mother, grandmother and such a thoughtful friend.
Ann

Among her endearing traits was her positivity. Always enthusiastic, she often would compliment people,or events, as being “the best I’ve ever had/met/seen/.” A wonderful and generous hostess, neighbour, and dear friend. Joan’s passing leaves a huge hole in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Deepest condolences to John and family.

Very sorry to hear of Joan's passing. Mrs. G. was a force of nature but she also had a gift for bringing out the laughter & love in others. Some of my best family memories involved Joan telling tales about adventures with my parents! Music festivals and ginger cookies remain some of my favorite things. My prayers are with you all.
