Obituary of Tonnis Albert Barkema

BARKEMA, Tonnis Albert (Tony) – of Belleville, entered into rest suddenly, at QHC-Belleville General Hospital, surrounded by family, on Sunday, March 24th, 2019, at the age of 90. Son of the late Reinder & Bauwke Barkema. Beloved husband of the late Alyda Barkema (nee Couperus). Dear father of Reg (Annelies), Marilynne (Ralph) Cotten, and Amy (Frank) De Haan, all of Belleville. Cherished grandfather of Nathan (Beverly), Ian (Nadia), Stephen (Heather), Lucas, Daniel, Fiona (Darren), Delyn (Nicole), Rylee, Nikki (Ryan). Cherished great grandfather of Claire, Samuel, Melainah, Emmiyah, Hailee, Hudson, Louisa, Carson and Marciana. Tony is predeceased by his infant daughters Amy Wilma (1962) and Beatrice Marion (1963) and by his siblings Piet, Pearl, Harm and Roelf. Visitation will be held at Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, 30 Moira Street West, Belleville (613-968-2273), on Wednesday, March 27th, from 5:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service, which will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Corbyville, on Thursday morning, March 28th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., followed by Reflections of Tony’s life, which will be held at the Frankford Community Christian Reformed Church, 149 King Street North, Frankford, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Michael Bootsma officiating. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation to one of the following charities would be appreciated; V.O.N., U.C.B Christian Radio or the Elmwood Cemetery.
