Patricia Lukiew

Obituary of Patricia Mildred Cecelia Lukiew

Pat passed away peacefully at QHC-Belleville General, with family at her side, on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 in her 82nd year.

Cancer never wins... it is either eradicated through treatment or death... but it never, ever wins.... today, it lost again, when my mother took her final, brave breaths... cancer DIED, and Patricia Lukiew will LIVE forever, in the hearts and minds of her family and friends. Mom went through an incredibly difficult disease process, suffered through toxic treatments, painful fractures, and innumerable medical setbacks, with grace, optimism, hope and love... she never complained... not one time... during the last 17 months... not the 81 years of her life. She was literally... the physical embodiment of love, caring, compassion and humility... the day she was told by an ER physician that some suspicious lesions were discovered on her images, very likely cancer... afterwards, she asked me to write a note to the doctor, saying how very sorry she was that he would have to deliver such difficult news to her... because it couldn’t have been easy for him... that’s just who she was...

FAMILY was everything to Mom... she cared for my dad thirty years ago, through the very same illness, until the end... and in the years that followed, gave generously of her time and love to all who knew her... she was blessed to see our family grow.  She is loved and missed by her son Michael and his wife, Julia, her daugher, Lori, her grandchildren; Molly, Jordan and Courtney (Ryan), Lauren and Courtney,  and three great grandsons.

Pat is predeceased by her parents, William and Rita Nichols, her husband, Russell Lukiew, and her brothers, William, Charles and Jack Nicols.

Nothing made her happier than when we were all together, and it would make her so proud and pleased to know that this little tribe of ours has rallied together and supported one another through these last few weeks...

COVID has put a damper on plans to celebrate my mom’s life in a traditional way, so arrangements are unclear at this time. For those of you who knew her... we welcome any stories or memories you would like to share...

Private services entrusted to Steele Funeral Home, Inurnment at Belleville Cemetery.

If desired, Memorial Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
