Obituary of Albert Nelson Newman

Retired C.N.R., Belleville Shriner for 50 years and a member of the Belleville Moira #11 Masonic Lodge for 62 years, entered into rest at his home in Belleville, on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020, at the age of 90. Son of the late Arthur & Mary Newman. Beloved husband of the late Doris Shirley Newman (nee Hill). Dear father of Darlene King (Roger) of Alabama and the late Valerie York of Belleville. Dear grandfather of Matthew King of Alabama and Jeremy & Bradley Wickens (Shannon) of Tweed. Also lovingly remembered by his great grandchildren, Drake, Colton and Deegan Wickens. Bert is survived by his sisters, Elinor Mullen of Lethbridge, Alberta and Sandra (Glen) Campbell of Belleville. Predeceased by his brothers, Stuart and Arthur Newman. Bert will be lovingly remembered riding the camel for the Shriners in the many parades.  When the time came that he could no longer ride on the camel, you could see him waving proudly from the Shriners vehicle. He will be missed. Cremation has already taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church, Everett Street, Belleville, on Thursday, October 15th, 2020, at 1:00 p.m.  

Due to current gathering restrictions, attendance is limited at the service. If you wish to attend the service, please email your request to RSVP@steelefuneralhome.ca and include “Newman” in the subject line, and include the names of the attendees. Masks are mandatory. 

If desired, donations to Christ Church or the Shriners Hospital for Children (Canada), would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, Belleville (613-968-2273).
