Steven was born in, 1937 to Klaas and Akke Bylsma in the Netherlands. After moving to Canada, he met and married the love of his life, Gretha. An upholsterer by trade for over 60 years, he liked to keep busy in the shop, and worked until age 82. He was curious about the world, loved history, was an avid reader, enjoyed taking road trips, and loved to spend time with family and friends. Steven’s passion was to share the love of Jesus his Savior with all those he encountered, whether visiting inmates in prison, singing with seniors in retirement residences, leading worship services at Sandbanks, greeting people at church, or simply chatting over a coffee with a neighbour or friend. He touched many people’s lives with his welcoming nature and his words of encouragement.
Cremation will take place, with the internment of remains to take place at Elmwood Cemetery at a later time. There will be a small private ceremony for family.
The Bylsma family would like to thank Dr. Kankesan and Dr. Woods and their nurses, as well as the V.O.N. nurses, for their wonderful care. Contributions in memory of Steven can be made to his favorite ministries: Shining Light Ministries orNew Life Women’s Home .
